Reading is a HUGE passion of mine, but being a college student means that I don’t always have the time to read the books I want to read. And even though I often end up liking books assigned by professors, I always can’t wait for summer break, so I can read whatever sparks my interest. So I thought I’d create a post that includes some of my all time favorite books, as well as some of the books I plan to read this summer in order to give you guys some suggestions for great summer reading!
SiennaSays’ Suggested Reads
The books above (and below) are some of my favorite books I’ve read over the past few years. Instead of writing full summaries, which are basically just on the back of the book, I chose a few words I thought best described each of them to include below!
Why We Broke Up by Daniel Handler: Thoughtful, emotional, insightful, witty, and beautifully illustrated.
Fun fact: You might know Daniel Handler as Lemony Snicket, the author of A Series of Unfortunate Events, and the feeling of dark playfulness he’s known for lives in these books as well.
I’ll Give You The Sun by Jandy Nelson: Poetic, romantic, mysterious, emotional, and full of magical realism (this is by far my favorite book I’ve read all year).
The Sky is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson: Poetic, insightful, romantic, honest, and bittersweet.
Fun fact: Jandy Nelson started out as a poet, and you can feel it in her writing. Her books deal with real life concepts and issues, but have a feeling of magic and wonder.
Wink, Poppy, Midnight by April Genevieve Tucholke: A beautiful, dark, twisted, almost fairytale – I couldn’t put it down.
Another thing I love to do in the summer is re-read an old favorite series, something I can really dive into and enjoy. For years I re-read all seven Harry Potter books every summer, without fail. But this year I lent my books to my cousin, and I decided to give another series a second look.
I was obsessed with Cassandra Clare’s Mortal Instruments Series and I’m really loving it a second time around. And yes, I know there are another three books to the series, but in my opinion the first three were the best, so they’re the ones I’m gonna re-read!
Last but not least, here a few of the books I’m planning on reading this summer.
Hopefully I get enough time to read these books so I can write detailed reviews for them! Fingers crossed!
Thanks so much for reading, and stay tuned for book reviews and other posts like this!
