At the beginning of every Monthly Favorites I say how crazy it is that the month is over, but it really is insane how fast time has been moving. The first month of my last year of college is over – if that isn’t crazy I don’t know what is. But I’ve been loving a bunch of stuff this month that I’m really excited to share with you all.
So here we go!
I picked this up when I was in Italy (that sounds so sophisticated…) and it has become one of my absolute favorite scents. I’m terrible at describing perfumes, so I’ll quote the website instead, which lists the notes as”sparkling mandarin, Moroccan jasmine, white amber, Cashmeran wood.” I’ve actually been curious about it for months prior to buying it, but I was using MAC’s Turquatic (still a fave) at the time, and it wasn’t until I dropped that and shattered the bottle (glass everywhere ) that I decided to give Alien a try. I had to buy the smaller size since I was traveling with just a carry-on, but I’m planning on buying it again soon in a bigger size.
I wasn’t completely sold on the formula of this a first, but after a few failed attempts, I finally figured out the best way to wear this. I line just the outside of my lips in a neutral shade (just to stop feathering and to help me define my lip line) and it’s a perfect combination. The brush on this one isn’t as nice as the Candy K one (I don’t know if that’s just mine, or what) but this formula isn’t at all drying and I really like the shimmer. It’s a nice color for fall, and something a little different from my normal vampy lip. A word of warning, this one definitely doesn’t last as well as the matte formulas, so be careful while eating or drinking!
So these glasses don’t have traditional lenses (which is why they reflect blue), and that’s exactly why I love them. I’ve always gotten a lot of headaches and eye fatigue from my computer, phone, even from the projectors in class, and so I decided for this year to try something a little different to help. These lenses don’t have a prescription, but instead are coated to help your eyes to filter out harmful light rays. And for me at least, it’s made a huge difference. I wear them in class and when using the computer and I’ve noticed fewer headaches and way less of that achey, dry feeling in my eyes. Plus, they’re adorable. My frames are a gray tortoise shell that they don’t seem to have at the moment, but there are tons of other frames on the site. Shipping takes a while (two weeks) but they were pretty inexpensive and, at least as far as I’m concerned, totally worth it. I’m thinking of getting my new reading glasses (which I do have a prescription for because I’m an old lady) with the Eye Zen coating as well.
These shoes are such an obsession. I’v been really into this style of shoe (although I’m not sure what you’d call it), but I hadn’t found a pair that were quite what I was looking for. I wanted a higher heel that was still comfortable, and these fit the bill. I also love the cut-out floral design, for something a little different. I’m thinking of getting a similar pair in suede or velvet as we continue to move into fall.
5. Black Velvet Choker
I was so psyched to find this velvet choker at the vintage store just down the street from school. I’ve been wanting one like this FOREVER but I just couldn’t find one that was exactly what I was looking for. It’s simple and adjustable, and the finishing touch for so many different outfits.
My mom recently got me into essential oils, and I use them for a whole variety of things. I put lavender oil on any blemishes, dry skin, even on burns from cooking (I’m not the most graceful in the kitchen, or elsewhere, really). I use peppermint for headaches and to help me breathe when I feel congested, I even add it to my water. There are tons of other oils that can be used for different things that I can’t wait to try out. My new obsession had been diffusing oils at night to help me sleep. Lavender my first choice, but sometimes I add peppermint as well to help with allergies or the colds that always seem to be going around college campuses. This diffuser was inexpensive on Amazon, and it’s something I would really recommend it for anyone else who has trouble relaxing or falling asleep.
7. Gilmore Girls, Seasons 1-7
I have been obsessively re-watching Gilmore Girls all month long. I’m actually embarrassingly close to being done with season 6. The re-watch is, of course, in preparation for the November 25th premiere of the revival. This show was my absolute favorite throughout middle school and high school, and since it’s premiere on Netflix, its been easier to binge watch than ever before (but who else remembers watching it daily on ABC family, all year long?). So while Gilmore Girls is an always favorite, it’s been a special favorite this month.
8. 22, A Million by Bon Iver
This album dropped on the 30th of September, so while it may seem like a strange favorite for that month, I was highly anticipating it all month long and I listened it probably ten times that first day. Therefore I can definitively say that this is a favorite for the month. As usual, his music is strange but insanely beautiful. I’m no professional on music and am terrible at describing it, so I’ll leave my explanation of the album at that. But I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for something new, fresh, and haunting.
I hope you guys had as great of a September as I did and thanks so much for reading!
